OBESITY TREATMENT

We know in the past that treatment for you has including your own dieting. Here- we take a medical approach to obesity management. We know that obesity is the result of a hormonal imbalance in the body where the brain thinks it is starving and it subsequently stores fat tissue unnecessarily. Treatment here would therefore target that hormonal imbalance. The challenge here is that there are 37 different hormones involved in this process.

We’d love to tell you that we can do a blood test and look for which hormones are imbalanced here and then adjust your treatment accordingly. Sadly we don’t have that kind of medical technology… yet. Anyone who tells that they can check your hormones and “tailor” your treatment towards your “hormonal imbalance” is not only giving you false information, they are likely trying to sell you something.

Medical evidence based treatment for obesity at present includes medication, bariatric surgery or both. In this program we offer all of these options. Below is the information on medications available in Canada for Obesity management as well as medication available for management of Type 2 Diabetes that may help in weight loss.

Should we decide that bariatric surgery is indeed the right treatment option for you- we will refer you to the bariatric conditioning program at Revolution Medical Clinic in order to begin the process and learn more about what is involved in bariatric surgery.

WHY MEDICATIONS?

Yes, you’ve been told to “eat less and move more”. Yes, you’ve been told that medications are “the easy way out”. But if this were any other disease no one least of all your health care team would tell you to just “try harder” and not take treatment. Disease IS hard. Treatment by its very nature is designed to make it easier. Treatment should be COMFORTABLE, SAFE and SUSTAINABLE. These principles are at the heart of any medical treatment for any disease. Why not here?
